Teaching Kids the Value of Work and Responsibility

working girl

Dindin enjoys working and helping me. It seems that she gets a great deal of satisfaction or sense of accomplishment.

In our home, Dindin’s life is not all play. I teach her how to help and let her observe the value of work. She thinks that when I am on the computer I am working. So sometimes, she would also pretend to be typing on a keyboard and say, “I am working.”

Aside from that, I also expose her to different household chores like cooking, washing dishes, washing clothes, cleaning the room, and most of all, packing away her toys. The only difference maybe is that she thinks she is just probably playing. But we just encourage her and praise her for the things that she does, especially if she helps us.

In the photo above, you may notice that Dindin is holding a can. We are making wedding giveaways and I was tasked to stick the labels on the cans. Of course, since I don’t have a nanny, Dindin was with me. I told her that I was working on the giveaways. She wanted to help so I let her put the covers on the cans and then she was also in-charge with stacking them. She had so much fun! She is a happy worker, laughing as I would ask her to do something or if I pass the can to her.

Then I also specifically told her to take care of the cans. She took it as a grave responsibility and guarded the cans jealously. When her A-ma passed by to looked at one, Dindin said, “No A-ma, put it back!”

Teehee I am just glad that Dindin is already aware of work and responsibility. And it is better to assign something to her so that she will not keep on bugging me because she is kept busy.

I am a proponent of teaching kids to work as opposed to giving them everything and not allowing them to experience hard work like we did. I think that the work part has been ingrained in me. My parents were hard workers and that contributed to who I am. If I let Dindin skip on the work park, she might think that everything will be offered to her on a silver platter. Then she will realize later on in life that it is not the way things work.

As she grows older, I will be teaching Dindin to do more things. And it is going to be more fun!

Doctor Barbie and Our Colorful Puzzle

PhotobucketLast night we were at SM for their SMAC Sale. It was just timely that Lolo Tito sent us money for Dindin’s Barbie. You see, I remember that when I was still a child, it was my Tito Nene who bought me my first Barbie Doll, which turned out to be my last as well. It was just way toooooo expensive for my parents to buy one for me.

But for Dindin, I never really got interested in buying one for her until I saw that there is a Barbie series called, “I can be a…” There are two dolls that I am interested in, and that is is the “I can be a doctor Barbie” and “I can be a Ballerina teacher.” That is because of all professions, Dindin is always pretending that she is a doctor. And she also pretends that she is a ballerina. So I asked Lolo Tito if he could also give one to Dindin and he agreed! Yey! He sent us the money and it was so timely since there was a discount last night, we were not only able to buy the “Doctor Barbie”, we also got four of those shape sorter cubes.

You would think that Dindin is already quite old for the shape sorter because by now, she can already recognize and say shapes like “trapezoid” and “hexagon” very clearly. But because I did not get just one but four of them it became an entirely different game. We connected all the pieces and I came up with that tubular thing.

But then I let Dindin play with it for awhile and when I looked around at her, she disassembled everything and started making a mat shape. With her grandma, they made the arrangement below. hihi Well, this is already a short family time.

Thank you very much Lolo Tito for sponsoring these stuff for Dindin! Greatly appreciated! Dindin is really happy with them!

More Bubble Bath Fun in a Wash Basin

Photobucket

Needless to say, Dindin loves bubbles. But we do not have a bathtub in the house. So ever since she was a baby we used a wash basin and let her play there. Now, she is actually getting too big for the basin already. Look at the photo above. She could barely stretch her legs anymore. But she still loves playing there. She just sits down and plays with the bubbles. She does not jump or romp around, she observes the bubbles as they pop after awhile.

I took that photo above because she kinda like the idea that she has a “bubble dress.” I got her to smile after I “clothed” her in bubbles. It was pretty hard to get her to look at the camera because she was really busy observing her bubbles to listen to me. She stayed here in this position for more than an hour and her skin, especially her fingers and toes, were already very wrinkly. LOL

I will need to buy some cheap shampoo that will create lots of bubbles for Dindin. It look a lot of my shower gel and some shampoo to create this much suds!
