For May 1, 2018, in line with the national celebration of Labor Day, The District North Point held iKids at Work. It’s a Kiddie Internship event at at the mall in honor of the hard working staff and crew that runs the entire operations.
Objective of iKids at Work
TDNP Marketing Manager Mikel Claur said that the Labor Day activity aims to let the kids be aware of the different aspects of running the mall, aside from just the building they see.
Also, since the kids were allowed to work for a short while at fashion outlets, Bench and Cotton On, it gave them a glimpse of how hard it is the staff work. It gave them a better understanding and appreciation for the work of the staff.
What Happened at iKids at Work
The participants of iKids at Work were already pre-registered. So at the registration, they were given intern IDs and assigned to a particular retail store. While waiting, they were allowed to play in the play corner set up provided by iKids Academy.
The event started with an orientation, which was followed by a mall tour. It gave the children a glimpse of the different parts of the mall as well as the different aspects of operating the mall on a daily basis. What was constantly reminded to the children was that, the management and staff of the mall are always aiming that their mallgoers and staff are “Safe and Secure”.
And to reinstate that mall motto, a security officer and a marshall went around with the kids during the tour, aside from the lady guides that they provided. The kids were also brought to the areas that that keep the fire extinguishers and first aid stuff.
After the mall tour, the kids had their internship in retail. I let the kids be assigned in the two different stores but in the end, Shane decided to stick with Dindin so they both went to Bench. Dindin and Shane both folded clothes and arranged displays at Bench. That was a nice physical activity going from rack to rack, with Siobe sprinting to get her tasks done. haha
This is a nice and simple activity for the kids that hopefully increased their level of awareness and also their respect among the workers and the mall operations. There are different kinds of learners and learning methods. This was a nice and practical exposure trip for the kids that they can carry on through life.
After the activity, they had a closing ceremony where they were given certificates of completion and some goodies.
If you want your child to experience such, watch out for the next announcement for iKids at Work at the mall. Follow their Facebook page for announcements: The District North Point
