Epistle 5 – Patience and Obedience

hide and seek

At the Circle Inn changing room after a morning of swimming, taken yesterday, February 4.

My Dearest Dindin,

It has been quite some time since I have written a letter to you. So many things have happened in you and to you. You have grown and matured a lot. In fact, you will be three years old already in about a month. And Mama has already started preparing for your third birthday party with a Tinkerbell party theme.

In the past several months, we have a fought a lot. It was a battle of wits and wills always. Your Papa and I are always stressed and in the end, you will go to your Papa for comfort. But lately, I thank the Lord because it seems that He has changed something in me that Mama has become more patient towards you. And the result, you have also become more obedient to Mama.

Strange as it may seem but the fact is, you wanted gentle coaxing and loving care–not stern punishment in order to wield obedience from you. It was Mama’s mistake, Din.

But all those times that we fought and Mama shouted at you or hurt you unnecessarily, Mama has asked for forgiveness from God and from you. And every time, you would look up to see with your innocent eyes and say gently, “Okay. Don’t do it again.” My heart is crushed. But thank you, because you have such a forgiving heart. You have been like that since you were little.

I continue to thank God for you and ask Him to remind me that you are a symbol of His grace to us. After all, your name, Shawna, means “The Lord is Gracious.”

This year, Mama is thinking of giving you a lot of opportunities to make summer memories. You are already older and can remember a lot of things already. So this is going to be one fun and long summer for our family.

I love you so much, Dindin. Papa and Mama both do.

God bless you!

Lovingly,
Mama

Epistle #4: Overnight Maturity

PhotobucketDearest Dindin,

It seems that you have matured overnight.

It seems like only yesterday when you consumed so many diapers. And today, you don’t want to pee and poo in your diaper anymore.

It seems like only yesterday when you were scared of the water and now with your floaters, you love swimming in the pool.

It seems like only yesterday when we had to hold on you the swing and then last Saturday, you just got on it and would push yourself to and fro.

I do not really know how or when these things happen. They just happen. And you are like a little grown up person already. You are growing up so fast that when I look at you while you are sleeping, eating, or just watching TV, I am just so amazed that God “assigned” you to us.

You are growing up gracefully and each passing day is just so amazing. You just have to forgive Mama though because of my so many shortcomings as a mother. I had been very busy lately and had not spent so much time with you, even if we are always together in the bedroom. I sometimes feel bad but it is just that Mama also needs to work. I will have to unload some things so that I can spend more quality time with you more than just feeding you, giving you a bath, giving your vitamins or combing your hair.

Sigh…I just want to relish every day with you, even if one of my clients tell me that it is not worth it taking care of you. For me, being your Mama and staying at home to be with you is just worth it. No matter what they say. I do not have to defend myself or my position in being a stay at home mom. It is a decision that I have made and to this day, I have not regretted it. I just thank God that He honored my desire to do so and still continues to bless us.

Maybe if you already have a younger brother, then that is the time for us to hire a babysitter who will keep the room tidy and look after the two of you while Mama is away. But for now, it will only be Papa, Mama, and Dindin–just like you always love. :D

I love you Dindin.

Lovingly,
Mama

Epistle #3: Responsibility

Dear Dindin,

You know very well by now that during the day, you can take out all your toys and that is okay. But at night, we have a routine called pack away, where we put back all your things in their proper containers (i.e. shoes, hats, and wigs in drawers, toys in their proper boxes, etc.)

Last night, we were the only ones in our room because your Papa went out to dinner with his high school friends whom he had not seen for a long time. You kept on playing with your toys while Mama kept on working on the computer. Then you called out while pointing at me, “Mama, stand up and take off your shades.” You actually meant that I take off my glasses because you already noticed that Mama only wears glasses while working on the computer and I take them off when I stand up. Then I asked you “Why?” but never really stood up. After several minutes, I glanced at where you are and realized what you were doing–you had already packed away most of your toys. Whereas our floor was almost covered with all your toys awhile ago, now you have packed away about 3/4 of your toys! The reason why you called out to me, as I later learned, was that you were asking for my help but I did not understand immediately.

Without being told, you packed away your things and I am very proud at how responsible you are. Keep it up, my child. Thank you so much for being such a great helper to Mama.

By the way, Mama went out yesterday afternoon and when I came back we had the following conversation:
Mama: Dindin do you still have colds? Are you still sick?
You: Yeah.
Mama: Were you a good girl while Mama was away?
You: Yeah.
Mama: What did you do?
You: Yeah.

You almost convinced me there! LOL You gave Mama and Papa a good laugh.

We love you so much, Dindin!

Lovingly,
Mama
